Joe Gilbreath is an Attorney whose principal office is located in San Antonio, Texas. He is a graduate of Texas Tech University (class of ’73) and the University of Texas, School of Law (class of ’76).
During law school, Joe began clerking for a former Texas Supreme Court Justice in a small boutique law firm in Austin that focused on family law, real estate, eminent domain, and litigation. He became an associate in the successor to that firm. In mid-1978, Joe was recruited to become an Assistant General Counsel to a Massachusetts concern.
In 1981, Joe became General Counsel to a Texas Corporation, where he served until 1996. He relocated his General Counsel’s office to San Antonio in 1990. As staff counsel, Joe’s work focused on labor and employment matters, administrative law, alternate dispute resolution, and litigation. As general counsel, those topics were expanded and included responsibilities for areas such as corporate law, regulatory law, real estate acquisitions, insurance issues, legislation, and tax matters. Further, as general counsel, Joe was responsible for prepaid legal plans providing services for beneficiaries including practice areas such as family law, administrative law, civil rights law, criminal law and procedure.
At both in-house positions, Joe had ever increasing responsibilities in management and financial arenas, including management of a network with as many as ten staff attorneys (plus support staff) and over twenty-five local, private attorneys. In 1996 and 1997, Joe made a venture into business. In 1998 and 1999, he served as an Administrative Law Judge for the State Office of Administrative Hearings, and in 1999, Joe opened the doors to the Gilbreath Law Firm. Joe has experience in all practice areas of the firm. See our Practice Areas. And, over the years, it has been Joe’s privilege to represent persons and businesses constituting a group almost as diverse as his beloved country.
Joe Gilbreath is licensed to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, all United States District Courts in Texas, and by the Supreme Court of Texas.
